By His stripes, you are healed. A truth from the scriptures that mankind has failed to comprehend its import, thereby losing tragically. We learn what it means.
Man is the crowning glory of God’s creation. He is an intricate and complex machine that is awe-inspiring. Of all God’s creation, besides heavenly beings who are superior in power, man is the only created being that exhibits an intelligence that is a marvel and at times beyond comprehension.
In this article, we will explore the following:
- The super-intelligent power inherent in man,
- The cause of ailments and diseases in the human body,
- Why you cannot be sick,
- The truth that proves you are already healed and
- The tragedy which faces the entire human race, for failing to appropriate the truth in the word of God.
When you ponder about the human body, you are left wonder-struck. Consider the way the body assimilates various types of foods; separates minerals, vitamins, and proteins; and expends and stores excess fats in various parts of the body. The way the body regulates every function and operates all the body organs harmoniously and seamlessly is beyond comprehension.
Fearfully And Wonderfully Made
To date, man is still trying to learn and understand the most unfathomable organ of all – the human brain. This organ is the command center of every part of the body. It coordinates and regulates every function to properly maintain the whole body. On the spiritual plane, It is capable of causing man to achieve impossible feats and seemingly unassailable exploits.
No wonder, when David pondered about this wonder creature, he was overwhelmed and just exclaimed, – “I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” Every man who studies this creature can only come to the same conclusion, – fearfully and wonderfully made. It is a masterpiece!
Surely, this creature’s creator had every good intention for His handiwork, to operate at optimum level without any impediments. Anything that inhibits the efficiency and optimum operation of any invention must be dealt with before the product is launched.
Consequently, there could be no room in the human body for ailments and sicknesses. Diseases in the human body would certainly curtail the harmony and the efficiency of this intricate machine. God did not and could not, deliberately or otherwise, intend for His crowning glory to experience sickness and diseases. He would want His creature to perpetually keep operating superbly. Something went wrong!
In the Garden of Eden is where our foreparents, Adam and Eve, rebelled against God’s commandment. As a result, they were cast away and alienated from God. From then onwards, up to date, man has been charting his course apart from God. “Without God in the world” (Eph.2:12).
What Went Wrong?
Initially, God had intended to guide and impart His wisdom on man, prosper, and increase him upon the land where He had placed him. He would have showered him with peace and harmony. Instead, by his own choices, man has reaped the bitter fruits of his own choices – pain, heartache, disappointment, and disillusionment. All kinds of evil and disaffection followed. Man became a debased being. From this state, ultimately man began to become sick and to be beset with all kinds of ailments.
Given that an inventor jealously guards and lovingly tends his invention to ensure its efficiency and reliability, it is equally true of God’s creation. God would address and eliminate all the shortcomings of His creature, for it to operate optimally as originally intended. In His design, God had taken care of His masterpiece.
Ideally, the human mind operates strictly on two extremes – nothing in between. These extremes are truth and error. When the mind is guided and grounded in truth, all the decisions made and their result are good and productive. On the other hand, when the mind is operating on error and falsehoods, what follows and the outcome is shortcomings and dis-harmony in every area of human life.
The most profound truth is that laws and principles govern the entire universe. It is indeed a spiritual world. Everything that happens in human life and the universe, stems from the spirit world. Here, the two extreme forces, – truth and error reign supreme over mankind and every being on earth. Reason demands that man seek the truth steadfastly and hold it fast as the foundation of being.
By His Stripes – Who Told You, You Are Sick?
However, lies and falsehoods are quite prevalent in the world. In the mire of human existence, the truth is not always apparent. It is mostly shrouded in the darkness of error and deception. Now, upon these deceptions man formulates his beliefs, upon which, he aspires to propagate the desires of his heart. Any accomplishments that man achieves, if they are of any worth, must be derived and founded on truth.
Nevertheless, In the most definite and deliberate manner, we all ought to set out by first seeking and laying a foundation of knowledge in truth. We must establish and lay premium to the truth of being through the principle of deduction. To the extent that we have access to the knowledge and the light of the truth, only then will we be able to make informed decisions. Only then will we be able to stand on the firm ground of prosperity and success.
Unfortunately, the world has consistently fumbled and stumbled in the search for truth. Through traditions, superstations, cultural codes, and customs steeped in ignorance, men are driven seemingly into a drunken stupor and darkness of ignorance. Jesus posed the question, – “If the light in you be darkness, how great is that darkness?” Certainly, decisions formulated on the wrong premise tend to thrive in “great darkness”.
After Adam sinned against God, he realized he was naked. When God came visiting in the cool of the evening, he hid himself. God could not find him so He called out, “Adam! where are you!”. Adam answered and said, “I heard you coming and I hid because am naked”. Then God asked him, “who told you, you are naked?” And, that is the issue right there! This is the malady of humanity.
Man has listened to opinions and reports of falsehoods from every quarter and believed them to be the truth about himself. It is indeed, a case of the blind leading the blind. So, the big question is, “Who told you, you are sick? There is a reality of truth that God has revealed to us, that we ought to take to heart.
By His Stripes – “You Are Confounded By Your Affections”
Where do we gather our knowledge? Where do we acquire our wisdom? Certainly, not from God who is our creator. We do not go to the source of all truth to seek counsel. In the book of 1 Cor.3:19-20, we read,
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness". And again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile"
Regrettably, we do not seek counsel from God. Instead, we rely on the counsel of the wise of this world. God calls this wisdom – futile. The thing is. How did you find yourself suffering an incurable ailment? Well, it started with you! A thought crystallized in your mind – am feeling feverish; am feeling cold; aching all over my body.
“As a man thinketh in his heart – so is he”
You went to see your physician (the wise of this world). He fussed all over your body, performed his sorceries, and finally declared – you have this, you have that and you believed him! You started confirming and affirming it, and the thing manifested.
In essence, by your thoughts and beliefs, you started ministering the thing to yourself. Of course, based on the testimony of your physician. Am sick with Alzheimer’s disease; am sick with Cancer; being sick with this, am sick with that. Yet, it is not according to knowledge. For the reality, according to your creator, the all-wise is that you are not and cannot be sick! He asks you – “who told you, you are sick?”
The truth of the matter is that this condition which you have embraced wholeheartedly as the reality of your life was arrived at on the wrong premise. You have not known the truth of how your creator sees you or what He thinks of your overall well-being. The fact is;- “By His stripes you were healed”. But you chose to believe the wise of this world – your physician.
The Righteousness Of The Law Upheld
We established that the entire universe is governed by laws. These laws are steadfast and cannot be broken. By this we mean, that once the law is established, it cannot be overruled or discarded. It is forever binding. Those under this law are bound and are under obligation to fulfill it.
Humanity fell from grace through the transgression of the law. As a result, Man has gone through untold suffering, which at times threatens his very existence. Man needed to be restored to his former glory by establishing the very law that he transgressed. In so doing, God demonstrated more abundantly, the infallibility of His laws as ordained in the Cosmos.
By His Stripes: Deliverance Foretold
By the law of God established, there was a need to deliver man from the condemnation of the righteous demand of the law which he transgressed. The law states that – “The soul that sinneth, it shall surely die”. And, true to the letter of this law, Man died! – Spiritually. Through this death, among so many problems, he started suffering ailments and diseases.
In the book of Isaiah 53:5, the prophet foretold this deliverance during his days, so many years before Christ, saying;
But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed
Notice that although this event was foretold long before the coming of Jesus Christ, Isaiah is speaking as if it has already happened. The text is in the past tense, yet the event was to happen in the future. You realize that this is God’s mindset. He calls “the end from the beginning”.
Second, notice the broken laws that the deliverer will satisfy by His sacrifice – our transgressions, our iniquities, our peace, and our healing. It is what the law demands of those who break it. That they are chastised and beaten with stripes. If the transgressor is to be spared, somebody must pay in his stead. The law once broken, demands recompense.
By His Stripes – The Law Recompensed
So when was the law recompensed? When was the sting of death diffused? In the New Testament, much later after Christ had died, risen again, and ascended into Heaven, we read in 1 Peter 2:24.
Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we having died to sins, might live for righteousness - by whose stripes we were healed.
Am sure you have read that verse right. This is the most astounding and glorious truth we can learn. It is what the entire world so badly and urgently needs to hear. Right at this point, humanity was let off the hook. The penalty which was due was completely paid in full. But what is even more exciting is what Christ accomplished for man on that tree. Man’s state was changed from – “dead in sins to alive for righteousness”. In this new state, mankind was healed and the restoration became complete.
In light of this knowledge, we now have the truth at our fingertips. We are not waiting or hoping to be healed. The word of God says we already are healed! Sickness and diseases have no place in our bodies – for “by His stripes, you are healed”. The condemnation that the law demanded has been recompensed. We were delivered from its power. In the fullness of time, when Jesus Christ hanged on that ragged cross and uttered those immortal words – “It is finished!”, our deliverance was perfected.
This is God’s doing for the love of mankind. This work, which was accomplished on the cross of Calvary, calls for exceeding joy and rejoicing. One of the most painful setbacks which consistently beset the entire human race, has been decisively taken out of the way. Our restoration process had gone full circle and was completed.
The Tragedy Of It All
Unfortunately, while the provision of – by his stripes – you are healed is already in place, humanity on whose behalf this was accomplished is not even aware of it. The world does not know that such a precious provision was achieved for it. Mankind is going through unbearable and unnecessary pain, strictly because they do not know the truth.
As it is written: "There is non righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God" (Rom. 3:10-11).
When one thinks of the millions of people in the world suffering from various ailments and diseases. Some ailments are even declared to be rare and incurable. It gets quite depressing. Imagine how many are suffering in hospital beds all over the world. Others are at home on their sickbeds, hopeless and desperate. All this is because they do not know the truth that – by His stripes, they are healed! It is a tragedy of monumental magnitude.
It Is Of Faith, That It Might Be – According To Grace
At this juncture, we have come to this point. Here, we are standing on sober ground and it calls for serious consideration. The knowledge that we have now acquired sets us free from the servitude of ailments in our bodies. In making new decisions, we are fully armed with the truth – by his stripes, you are healed.
However, our success will depend on one critical action on our part. We must recondition our minds to align with the new knowledge. This is because, from birth, our minds were programmed contrary to this new truth. We have always believed, erroneously, that diseases are part of our lives. To convince our old way of thinking to believe this truth – that, “by His stripes, we are healed”, will be quite a challenge. It is called “putting new wine in old wineskins”.
In this treatise, we learned that Jesus Christ translated us from a state of being – dead in trespasses, to a state of being alive for righteousness. What this means is that we can no longer conform to the old way of thinking. We must renew our thoughts to conform to our new state. That way, we will be able to propagate our faith, based on the truth of the word of God, and not on the “wise of this world”.
Ideally, what we are dealing with here, is strictly about pure faith without mixing it with anything else. It is written – “For without faith, it is impossible to please Him [God]”. Surely, we offend God when we fail to apply the truth of His word in our lives through faith.
By His Stripes – What Must We Do?
We have to gird the loins of our minds and apply this truth in our lives. With renewed minds, we will confidently dwell in the liberty of our new state, which is created in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Take this exhortation to heart…
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it (Heb. 4:2).
Undoubtedly, in the scripture above, we have it from undisputable authority. we have been taught the truth. The onus is upon us to put it into practice so it may benefit us. Notice that this truth was preached to others but it did not profit them. Why? Because they did not mix this truth with one important ingredient – Faith!
However, we have an assurance in hope and confidence. That it will bear for us the desired result if we apply it correctly through faith.
In conclusion, our earnest desire for every person on the face of the earth is to receive this glorious truth in their hearts and apply it in their lives. It is a gift bestowed upon us by our Creator, through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Excitingly, this is a heritage for those who love the Lord. Through Him, we now know that – By His stripes, we were healed!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, be with you.

What a revelation! This is absolute dynamite!
When you come to think about it, you get this sense of urgency to let the whole world know this truth.
Isn’t it rather sad that the world is suffering while this provision is in place?
Thanks so much for highlighting this truth. It is such an eye opener!
